I call it Super Sunday when both my teams play on the same day. Doesn’t happen too often. First, Chelsea kick-off at 1.30pm UK time in a passionate London derby at home to arch rivals Arsenal in the English Premier League. Later on the Raiders go into action against the New York Jets at 9.05pm. Perfect. That should leave a few hours to check in to NFL Network Red Zone Live and also catch one of the early NFL games. Brady vs. Brees looks tasty. Good thing it was my wife’s turn to cook supper.
Here’s a little look at how my Super Sunday went:
Super Sunday 3.30pm. The aperitif. After an exciting, end-to-end match, Chelsea finish with 10 men but hold on for the 0-0 draw. The sort of scoreline that makes US sports fans scratch their heads and wonder how 0-0 can be a thriller. I’ll take it…we’re still third in the league.
Super Sunday 9.05pm. Onto the main course, and the Coliseum is rocking for the season home opener. NFL Game Pass is playing up as usual, but thankfully it calms down just as kick-off approaches. That’s one of the difficulties being a Raiders fan from England, you really have to work hard to watch the games. NFL Game Pass is better than listening on the radio but it’s still not the same as watching on television or cable.
Super Sunday Midnight. A blowout, cardiologist not required and we go to 2-0. Michael Crabtree’s hat trick. Marshawn Lynch’s dancing. Jalen Richard’s electric run. Karl Joseoh playing like a rocket. Mario Edwards, Jr. beasting in the middle of the line. Gareon Conley looking like the real deal. Even the LBs did OK.
After all of the Super Sunday activities, I had less than six hours to get some sleep before starting my work week, but that’s ok because it’s already been a good week thanks to Super Sunday.
Now to figure out my schedule so I can watch the Washington Sunday night game live when it starts at 1:30 a.m.
