The Oakland Raiders made their first major move of the offseason, aside from hiring Jon Gruden that is, when they cut cornerback David Amerson on Monday afternoon. But while Amerson was the first major move of the offseason for Oakland, it’s probably not the last.
Amerson has been with the team since they picked him up off of waivers from Washington back in 2015. In his first partial season with the Raiders, Amerson played very well. Good enough to earn an extension and have many people thinking he was at least part of the solution for the problem at corner. Fast forward a couple of years and Amerson has been about as up and down as one can be, with great moments followed by terrible ones all topped off with an injury that made him miss much of this past season.
Because of those ups and downs and the injuries this season, it’s no surprise that the Raiders have decided to move on. In doing so, they will save $6 million and hopefully upgrade the position. Of course, there is always the chance that after having cut Amerson, the Raiders will bring him back on a much more team friendly deal.
Now the question is, who’s next?
