I’ve been a Raiders fan since 1985 and during that span there is no team that I despise more than the Kansas City Chiefs. Growing up my favorite professional athlete was Marcus Allen so you can imagine the difficulty I had when Marcus played for the Chiefs from 1993 to 1997. Between 1985 and 2017 the Kansas City Chiefs are 40-25 against the Raiders but the Chiefs dominated them for a very long time. Since 2007, the silver and black have won 10 of their last 21 games versus KC so mathematically speaking the rivalry really hasn’t been a rivalry for a long time because during most of my lifespan as a fan the silver and black have usually fallen prey to the Chiefs.
That’s why I hate the Chiefs so much. How can you respect someone that beats you all the time? In celebration of the playing them yet again I wanted to be a bit selfish with this article which is dedicated to my Top 5 Games ever as a Raiders fan versus Kansas City.
5) 10-5-1986 Jim Plunkett saves the day: The Raiders traveled to KC with a 1-3 record, RB Marcus Allen was sidelined by an ankle injury and Naval Academy graduate Napoleon McCallum would get the start in the backfield. QB Marc Wilson also got the nod at quarterback. The Chiefs dominated early by scoring three times in the first 18 minutes to take a 17-0 lead. Wilson was mostly ineffective but he did take advantage of a costly Chiefs turnover by tossing a short touchdown pass to Dokie Williams. Early in the third period Wilson connected on three straight passes to get the Raiders within striking distance. McCallum roared into the endzone from 12 yards aways and all of a sudden the Chiefs lead dwindled to three points.
The Raiders defense stopped KC on their next drive but the Raiders quickly lost Marc Wilson to an injury. In a moment remonicent of the 1980 season, Jim Plunkett entered the game and he quickly took charge of the situation. The defense kept KC from scoring for the reminder of the game and Plunkett led Los Angeles to 10 more points, including a touchdown pass to Jesse Hester. The game ended with Oakland winning 24-17.
